It’s been said that children spell love “T-I-M-E”. You and your partner are categorically the most important and influential people in their lives. You have the unique position of writing on the slate of who they are by the way you treat them.
And the greatest gift you can give them is not material (although we have to work and pay the bills); it’s your attentiveness.
If you make it a priority to spend some time every day really tuning-in to the ones you love; really getting off your own planet for a while and joining them on theirs, you will be helping to improve their self esteem.
You are showing them that you value them. You will be demonstrating to them that they are worthwhile and that you care about what is happening in their world.
It’s not enough for your loved ones to have you in the same physical space, but completely distracted. They need you to be present and engaged.

But make it the exception, not the rule. And when those times are coming – talk to your partner about it and put some boundaries around that too. For example, you stay plugged in to the family throughout dinner, homework and bedtime and then give work a further time slot when required.
